Virgin Island Fossil Coral Hawksbill Turtle
Turtles are a favorite with almost everyone. We all fear for these endangered and environmentally challenged creatures. This wonderful Hawksbill Turtle sculpture of a creature which often travels many thousands of miles across the ocean wastes to lay her eggs on the beach where she herself was hatched, will be a marvelous "plus" for any collector. Our turtle here is rising from the ocean floor after browsing for food and beginning to cruise around the reef. Beneath her are tube sponges, starfish and a peacock flounder. On the rock beside her is a Coral Crab and growing on the rock some plant life. You can give this handcrafted figurine knowing it will be a truly appreciated gift.

Hawksbill Turtle Facts
The Hawksbill Turtle's name comes from its narrow, hooked beak, part of the upper jaw. Its translucent shell, sadly so much used for decorative purposes in the past, can also identify the Hawksbill Turtle. Hawksbills normally grow to between 30 and 100 lbs and the record is 280 lbs.
Turtles have lived in our oceans for over 100 million years and have been toothless for most of that time. There are, today, seven species of marine turtle. Sea turtles are listed as endangered and are under extreme threat to their survival. The main threats are pollution and changes to their habitats, especially coral reefs , seagrass beds, mangrove forest and nesting beaches.
Latin name: Eretmochelys imbricata
Virgin Island Fossil Coral Figurines are not painted...
They are shot through with color as they are made. Every figurine made is unique. The technique of the artisan in laying in the colors, the batch of white fossil coral prepared for use, the temperature, the humidity, all affect how the colors will flow. No two will ever be exactly the same. All our pieces are all individually made. The Coral Studio employs no mass production techniques, only skilled craftsmen.
